About Nightjar
Nightjar Collective is a queer, artist-run gallery and event space focused on providing accessible support for low-income and less established visual, performance, and new media artists. We facilitate open calls for artist submissions, curated shows, Frogmouth--Nightjar's monthly literary magazine, and community events such as open mics, musical performances, and fundraisers. Our space offers a gallery, venue space, artist studios, a woodshop, and the potential for recurring artist and craft workshops that center on accessibility for emerging and underrepresented cultural workers interested in pursuing mixed-media, performative, and new media genres.
Our mission is to cultivate curatorial experience and exposure for emerging, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC artists in the Kansas City metropolitan area in an accessible, financially viable manner. To achieve this, we forgoe submission fees and large commissions in favor of donation money and community fundraising, and offer editing and consultation services for artists free of charge. Nightjar collects only a 10% commission on all sold work, prioritizing artists and community over profitability, and all events are pay-what-you-can (PWYC) or sliding-scale fees.
Proposals
We're currently accepting gallery proposals for the 2022 Fall Season. Fill out the proposal form or send us an email, and we'll get back to you shortly.
Space
Nightjar is 589+ square foot space located in Kansas City, MO, right next door to café/bar/music venue Farewell, and just a few minutes off I-70 and I-435.
We're on the first floor, with studio spaces in the back, and apartments upstairs. There is a ramp off the sidewalk to the left of the front door, which measures 0 x 0. High ceilings and front facing windows light up the space, with adjustable overhead spotlights for more specific gallery lighting, especially as needed towards the windowless back of the space.
